LIMERICK Centra retailer, Chawke’s in Castletroy, has fought off fierce competition to be recognised as one of Ireland’s top retailers at the ‘Retailer of the Year 2008’. The Limerick business won three categories including Best Customer Service, Forecourt/Convenience Store of the Year 1,100 sq ft plus and Best Site with a Licence to sell Alcohol, before it was then crowned Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience “Retailer of the Year 2008” at a gala awards ceremony in Dublin hosted by Television Presenter, Gràinne Seoige. Now in its fourth year, Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience Retailer Awards are known as the industry’s answer to the Oscars. The awards are supported by wholesalers, symbol groups, oil companies and independents, and cover all categories of forecourt retailing helping to raise industry standards throughout Ireland by recognising excellence and rewarding professionalism. Judging criteria include design and ambience of the store, product range, fresh food quality, innovative systems and customer service. With over 500 entrnats throughout Ireland, being a winner highlights a major achievement for local retailers. Chawke’s store owner, Tom Chawke, commented: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received four awards here tonight, having faced tough competition from other extremely good forecourt retailers across the country. It is an honour for us to be recognised as forecourt Retailer of the Year 2008 by Ireland’s Forecourt and Convenience Retailer Magazine.” He added: “Our manager, Tom Duggan and his team are a highly motivated bunch, who go that extra mile to make sure customer service and store standards are just right. These awards acknowledge the commitment and constant dedication of all our staff,” Mr Chawke added. Judges credited the win to the consistently high level in performance over the years.“Chawke’s high standard of forecourt facilities meet the needs of the site’s long established customer base and passing trade. The emphasis on providing a wide range of services, developed in response to growing demand from its customers along with the exceptional standard of customer care and service make Chawke’s deserving winners,” said Bill Penton, Managing Publisher, ’Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience Retailer’. |
