The Carpetstore on the Dock Road wipes the floor with the opposition when it comes to providing a huge range of flooring solutions to its customers, according to owner Billy Kenny.

The 5,000 square foot warehouse is located in Riverside Park—complimented by other nearby homewares shops—and has been open since 2001.

Mr Kenny said that all flooring options are covered from carpets of all shapes and colours to rugs as well as various types of wooden flooring.

“We have something for everyone in terms of style and price range. As well as carpets and rugs from popular brands like Axeminster Carpets, we stock laminated flooring from €6.95 a square yard; semi-solid wood flooring from €15.95 a square yard and solid wood flooring from €26.95 a square yard,” he said, adding that recent trends show that quality and not quantity is the biggest draw for customers.

“I think that people tend to go for high quality material more and more now because a nice house might cost €250,000 so the owners want to make sure that the floors look the part and last a long time. Even though people mightn’t be doing their whole house in carpet, they are paying more attention to what they are putting down.”

Mr Kenny said that a very popular choice is Saxony Carpet—a stain and allergy free option.

“It’s an ideal choice for anyone with allergies or asthma because there are no fibres. It’s a plush pile carpet in a range of natural colours that is specially treated so you can easily remove stains like tea, coffee and red wine. Prices for that go from €10 to €50-60 a square yard and it’s always in demand.”

The Carpetstore also offers a very sought after service to its clientele in that it removes and disposes of any carpet being replaced.

“That’s a big bonus because some fitters mightn’t take the old material away and it’s expensive to dump carpets with a waste disposal company. We take it away for free.

A lot of people just give us their keys and we go in when they are out working and take up the old carpet. We have four fitters—two teams of two—working all the time to offer the best possible service.”
