The Irish are famed for heading off to the Costa Del Tan every summer, in the hope of catching the suns rays, and attracting more than just the flies and mosquito’s to our gorgeous milky white skin.

For some in Ireland, the golden bronze fairy magically sprayed her tan on their dark Irish skin, thus allowing them to tease their flog-like siblings and friends on the three and a half days the sun actually appears in the home skies.

But fear not any further, my blotchy freckled friends, because there’s a new tanning studio in Limerick, which claims to be the first Polish run tanning business in the City.

Three years ago the beautifully tanned Agnieszka Orlowska decided to come to Ireland and start a new life. Now she runs ‘TropicalSun’, her own tanning studio, situated at 8 The Crescent, off O’Connell Street.

“My family had all come over to Ireland four years ago because my father got a job in Shannon in programming. I followed them three years ago,” Agnieszka says.

When the trained beauty therapist from the Wroclaw region of Poland came to live with her family in Shannon she soon found herself drawn more and more by the bright lights of Limerick City.

“I was a trained beauty therapist in Poland but I had to train over here again. I also went to Limerick Senior College to do a one-year evening course because I wanted to learn the technical language for the business over here,” says Agnieszka.

“I’m very happy with the way things have gone. Already half of the customers are Irish. The parlour is very popular with the Irish because they want to get a nice tan like everybody else.”

Agnieszka’s motto is: “Safety is the most important thing.” And it’s clear she is proud of her service and what it has to offer the public.

“I use only the best machines (tanning beds) with very good lamps. There are three types. The first one is for people with a very light colour to their skin. The second is for more brown skin and the third is for people with a dark complexion. However safety is a priority for me,” she says.

“When you come into my parlour you will get a permanent tan. It may fade a little over time but you will be left with a good base. I decide if you need a tan or not or if you have had any problems with your skin in the sun. The user can also control the temperature of the bed while they are using it,”
