ParkMagic was formed to pursue a revolutionary new idea to develop and deliver an effective pay-by-phone parking system. Subsequently the company has developed a host of payment solutions using the mobile phone designed to make the life of the parking consumer a little bit easier.

Dave Ward joined the executive team at ParkMagic in the early stages of the development of this innovative Limerick company, which was set up three years ago.

As Business Development Director for ParkMagic, Dave has been a driving force behind the significant market development of the company since its formation.

He has played a pivotal role in launching and growing the organization to create value and revenue streams in new markets. Many people in Limerick will recognise ParkMagic by the small parking display units visible on cars dash boards parked around the city which motorists use to pay for their parking by phone as an alternative to scratching discs.

This July is an exciting period for ParkMagic as the company has just launched an upgraded ParkMagic product using barcode technology in the form of a disc that you stick inside your car windscreen.

These will replace the old ParkMagic display units and are being actively distributed to all motorists in Limerick during the month of July.

The new disc is more convenient, cheaper and don’t generate waste discs.  Limerick City Council is supporting the system with a dedicated Freephone parking number 1800-30-30-93.

As well as on street parking, ParkMagic’s technology can be used by customers to pay for parking in the country’s railway stations and airport car parks by using their mobile phones. Everyone has a mobile phone so it is extremely convenient.

Dave says the company is also in the process of installing its technology in some large cities in the US and the UK so “it is a busy time for all concerned”.

The ParkMagic technology will also lend itself to pay for barrier free tolling which comes into effect on Dublin’s M50 next month and closer to home will affect us all when our tunnel under the Shannon opens for business in 2010.

A native of Limerick, Dave attended Ard Scoil Ris and then University of Limerick where he completed a business degree.
After a few years in the workplace and guided by an early belief that information technology was going to be the next “big thing” he returned to UL to undertake a post-grad in Software.

Dave’s foresight and vision were central to his early involvement in many software development companies in Ireland.

His aim to “continually advance and improve” his career by learning new skills and seizing new opportunities, which incidentally led him to take on his current role at ParkMagic.

Despite having to travel extensively for work he manages to pursue some outside interest such as playing the odd game of golf.
