FINAL preparations are underway for the inaugural Mid-West Regional Business Week, which will be officially opened at the Westpark Business Campus in Shannon on October. Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher TD will perform the official and following on from the official opening, newspaper columnist and television presenter, Vincent Browne will chair a discussion panel on the topic 'Doing business in the Mid-West'.

Panellists will include Minister Kelleher; O'Connell, MD of Westpark Shannon Ltd; Dr Maria Hinfelaar President of LIT; Brendan Kenny of the Limerick Regeneration Project and Rory O'Connor, former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

According to Dr Hinfelaar, “the region possesses huge strengths. We have a rich diversity in industry with scope for further development”.

“In terms of the cost of doing business, this part of the country is more competitive than elsewhere. The infrastructure is improving all the time and there are excellent opportunities in education, training and research. We must believe in the talents of people in this region and harness their potential,” she added.

The Enterprise Expo has attracted over 40 stands from professional bodies, which will offer advice and guidance to business owners and those thinking of starting a business.

The Construction Industry Federation will also offer time and expertise on the day.

Many of the enterprises taking part in the Enterprise Expo have received funding from Enterprise Ireland or the Enterprise Boards and are an example of the local successful entrepreneurship stories in the Mid-West Region.

A number of short seminars from six of the region's most inspiring small business owners and industry representatives will take place from 4-7pm with a line up including: ResourceKraft; The Burren Smokehouse; Digino Marketing; Sort My Books; Donseed Ltd and Recognition Express.

Mid-West Regional Business Week is a combined initiative by the region's county and city enterprise boards in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland and runs from October 5 to 9.

The Mid-West Networking Event with Sean Gallagher from Dragon's Den will take place in the Radisson Hotel on October 7 at 5.30pm.

Bank of Ireland is the key sponsor of the event and for further details, call 061-496520 or see www.lcoeb.ie.
