According to a statement by Deloitte, with regards to the biggest challenge facing indigenous Irish companies, a third of companies each identified the high cost of doing business, availability of funding and lack of customer demand as the most pressing concerns.

Deloitte also added that the winning companies are not convinced that the supplementary Budget announced in April by the present Government, would stimulate economic recovery.

“92% do not believe it will have an impact. Nearly 70% believe that there should now be a general election. On a positive note however, over 70% of winning companies believe that Ireland can emerge from this recession and enter a period of sustained growth,” the statement added.
According to Kevin Sheehan, Partner, Deloitte, “It is not surprising that entrepreneurial spirit was identified as a critical factor in Ireland's success, as we believe it was most definitely a factor in our winning companies' success. This year we are looking for that same entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with sound management practices, as we seek out this year's winning companies.”
Mr Sheehan added: “We recognise that in today's economy, business and management success can no longer simply be defined as increased sales, profit or turnover. We will be taking a holistic view of the companies, their performance in relation to their peers, and the industries that they are operating in, in order to determine management success. We are excited to see this entrepreneurial spirit in practice as companies tackle the challenges that currently exist.”
Deloitte, in association with Bank of Scotland (Ireland), are calling on all Irish owned, managed and controlled companies to submit their applications for this year's Best Managed Company Awards programme by the deadline Friday 3 July.
