The best in Limerick entrepreneurial talent was rolled out this week at the Limerick City Enterprise Awards in conjunction with Limerick Business Week, which runs from October 1-5.

The awards celebrate the achievements and successes of local entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial spirit that helps to make Limerick a vibrant business city.

The Overall Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 was Mark Fleming of Fleming Medical, the Limerick based company which offers a wide product range of over 5000 healthcare, hygiene and health and safety products to customers that include healthcare professionals, hospitals, emergency services, community care, community groups, pharmacies and industry.

The National Awards Qualifier for Limerick City was awarded to Starting Small Standing Tall, a licensed crèche, preschool, and after school care facility, which was set up by Pamela Walsh and Mella Byrne in Crossagalla Industrial Estate in September 2006.

Limerick City Enterprise Board Social Entrepreneur for 2007 was awarded to Michael Tiernan. A founder member of Limerick Enterprise Network (LEN), which was established to support the development of new business and to provide potential entrepreneurs with advice from experienced business people, LEN has operated a community time bank and a revolving loan fund.

David and Nora McCaffrey from Sallymills Bakery, which specialises in handmade artisan baked goods was awarded the Best Manufacturing Business.

The award for Best Service Business was presented to Ann Lyons from Craft Innovations Corporate Gifts, which provides a gift service to business and sports organisations. The winner of the Business with Best Growth Potential went to Integrated Media Solutions, who is in its third year of trading. The brainchild of Shane Hartigan, John Deegan and Leo Colgan, Integrated Media Solutions is a media service provider in residential developments and new build tenant complexes.

Big Wave Media Training was set up in 2006 by Liam Hurrell and Suzanne Collins to provide a training service specialising in the field of graphic design, desktop publishing and digital media production was awarded the Best New Business award.

Eamon Ryan, Limerick City Enterprise Board CEO congratulated the winners and the commended the client companies who entered the Awards competition. He said the standard was “extremely high and once more confirmed that Limerick possessed a strong and innovative entrepreneurial tradition”. He also wished Starting Small Standing Tall success in representing Limerick at the National Enterprise Awards.
