The Mid-West National Road Design Office, which is overseeing the design of the Limerick Tunnel, Limerick Southern Ring Road and the N7 Nenagh-Limerick upgrade, has been awarded a prestigious CPD (Continuing Professional Development) accreditation from Engineers Ireland. ![]() Senior Engineer Tim Fitzgerald and Engineer Seamus Linehan - Mid West NRDO receive the accreditation from Prof Jim Browne, Vice President, Engineers Ireland (right). It received the award following an audit of its lifelong learning practices for engineering professionals. “To be rewarded with Engineers Ireland CPD Accredited status is very satisfying. CPD is a fundamental part of our operations and we encourage our engineers to attend external training courses and on their return they circulate course literature and provide a lunchtime lecture to their colleagues, thus maximising learning opportunities,” said Tim Fitzgerald, Senior Engineer, MWNRDO. Engineers Ireland’s CPD Accreditation scheme is co-funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment under the National Training Plan. “CPD Accreditation recognises companies and organisations which implement specific continuing professional development policies to support their engineers and technical staff. The organisation has been very proactive in training employees and its commitment to CPD is demonstrated by its knowledge management system and ‘Learning Loop’ activities,” said John Power, Chartered Engineer and Director General of Engineers Ireland. The Midwest National Road Design Office, established in 1989, was the first NRDO to be established. It identifies Limerick City Council; Limerick County Council; North Tipperary County Council and the National Roads Authority as its customers. Current schemes under construction include the Limerick Southern Ring Road, including the Shannon Tunnel and the N7 Nenagh-Limerick upgrade. MWNRDO has been responsible for 86km of completed national roads, with 48km under construction and a further 61km at design stage. Among the other projects MWNRDO is involved in road safety audits, traffic calming maintenance, road sign design, cost benefit analysis, planning applications assessments and the review of contract documents. |
