The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment has commended Limerick firm Parkmagic for overcoming 13 interrivals to clinch a multi-million euro contract in Chicago last week.

It is believed the mobile technology firm will double its workforce to around 30. Details of the deal were announced during an Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to the east coast of the US.

“Parkmagic and its team of 12 employees have been to the fore in rolling out mobile technology to pay parking fees in major cities.

“Not only does its technology end the need for drivers to carry around bundles of change it also allows the removal of unsightly parking meters from streets,” said Minister Micheál Martin.

“Parkmagic is the second Limerick company to secure a major deal during this mission; Advanced Innovations secured a $29m contract which will see the use of satellite technology to remotely monitor the health of cattle,” he said.
Chairman of ParkMagic, Brian Geoghegan, said the system will be in place in the downtown area of Chicago by next July.
