If ever there was an issue that demanded some kind of cross-party, non-partisan arrangement, it would be Shannon.

Please don’t tell me that the Soldiers Of Destiny, the Blueshirts, the Labour roses, the Greens, the PDs and the myriad of Independent voices are so ideologically split on the issue that there could not be some ‘coalition of broad views in the national interest’.

This is no time to be scoring party political points, or even thinking about it.

And if the Government are to stick to their guns, so be it. But at least let’s have dialogue between the parties and then with the wider public.

Limerick and the Mid-West has grown accustomed to being left out in the cold; especially on health (cancer treatment in particular); and the rail system is a joke, with no efficiency in terms of transportation between Limerick, Galway and Cork, which are three of the economic powerhouses of the State… or so public representatives tell us when they want to claim credit for something.

It’s time to get it together, in the national interest, rather than paying lip service to the concept.
