LIMERICK Minister of State, Peter Power, congratulated Saint Joseph’s Boys National School, Rathkeale, at the recent fifth annual ‘Our World’ Irish Aid Awards in Dublin Castle.
The school was one of the 11 finalists attending the awards ceremony after a project by pupils entitled ‘The World is in Our Hands’ was highly commended.
“I would like to congratulate the boys of Saint Joseph’s and their teachers on being chosen as finalists in this year’s awards. The entries received this year from schools all over Ireland were extremely creative and well presented. They demonstrate the high level of commitment among pupils and teachers to working with developing countries and to making a difference in the fight against global poverty and hunger,” he said.
“The theme of this year’s competition ‘Hunger in our World’ helps to highlight the unacceptable reality that the number of people going hungry in the world is now over one billion.”
In all, over 600 primary schools took part and over 200 primary school pupils and teachers attended the awards day
