THE University of Limerick has launched a new project encouraging its students and staff to reduce their car usage in favour of healthier pursuits. The ‘Time to Walk—Time to Cycle’ initiative was initiated and implemented by the UL Environmental Committee.
It is part of a larger strategy to raise awareness on the personal and environmental benefits of reducing car usage.
Motivational signs have been developed with the assistance of the Irish Heart Foundation and their Slí na Sláinte project, which outline the distance between different points on the UL campus and beyond.
The signs aim to encourage activity throughout the day, such as walking short distances or taking the stairs instead of the lift.
Workplaces that introduce Slí na Sláinte are also helping to create an environment that encourages physical activity.
