Youtube success for tech students

Second year Music Media & Performance Technology students have been making their mark on the web with a collection of films made both as part of their course requirements and in their personal time, with over 50,000 views of the films in total.

‘Limerick Uncovered’, by Matthew Organ and Daniel Murphy, has proved to be the most popular, having been watched 30,000 times on popular video-sharing website Youtube. A mockumentary on racism and discrimination in Limerick, the film features local rugby star Jerry Flannery as an irate passing motorist.

Speaking on Jerry Flannery’s involvement in the film, Matthew Organ said: “It was hard to get him as he was quite busy but he was a great laugh to work with.”

Matthew, from Dungarvan, and Daniel, a Limerick native, had made separate films for their first second year project, before deciding to collaborate on their second.

Asked about negative feedback in relation to the subject matter, Matthew said “Most of the feedback is very positive, I would say about five percent of comments on Youtube is negative which is not too bad, it’s hard to please everyone I suppose.”

When the duo have received negative remarks about their work, they “just point out to them the time frame we had to make it and the fact it was just a college project and us having fun”.
