THE University of Limerick Orchestra will hold its Christmas Concert
2008 ‘A Classical Christmas’, on Saturday December 6 at 8pm in the
University Concert Hall. The programme will include numbers from Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet, ‘The Nutcracker’, and Evelyn Grant (flute) and Jean Kelly (harp) will also grace the stage for a performance of Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto. The orchestra will be joined on stage by the County Limerick Youth Choir, under the direction of Maire Keary Scanlan. The choir will offer up a selection of lively seasonal melodies and perform alongside the orchestra in works such as John Rutter’s ‘Donkey Carol’. There will also be a Christmas Sing-Along with the audience. The UL Orchestra is a non-profit, community-based orchestra. Its membership is made up of students, staff and past students of UL along with musicians from the wider community. Michael John Ryan has conducted the orchestra for the last four seasons, with featured soloists including Suzanne Murphy (soprano), Dermot Dunne (accordion) and Mark O’Keeffe (trumpet). Tickets cost €15, concessions cost €10 and student tickets cost €5. For bookings, call 061-331549 or log on to www.uch.ie. For more information, see www.myspace.com/universityoflimerickorchestra. |
