The band's debut album 'Hither Thither' will be released in October. Originally from Waterford, the quintet spent the best part of last year recording the debut album in a cold country house near Kinsale in Cork.

The band chose to undertake the project themselves, allowing ample room for tinkering with ideas, arrangements and a myriad of different instruments. In doing so, they were constructing what was to become a multi-faceted, thought-provoking record, which is at once arresting but slightly unsettled.

The album moves through themes of youthful uncertainty, isolation, pending destruction and creeping midnight thoughts, which is balanced and contrasted by layers of intricate, hypnotic sounds, which heavily feature swirling vocal harmonies. Influences for the sound of O Emperor would include Grizzly Bear, Elliott Smith, Mercury Rev and The Beach Boys.

O Emperor warm up for their Oxegen headline slot with a gig at Baker Place this Friday, June 26. Door open at 9pm.
