In the latest of a run of top class hip hop shows to hit Limerick with Jazzy Jeff, DMC World Champions Beattorrent and Daedulus Grammy award winning Dj Whoo Kid from 50 Cent's G-Unit swung by on the Bank Holiday for a debut Irish show at Trinity Rooms. Initially just one among countless other mixtape DJs in New York, DJ Whoo Kid rose to prominence alongside fellow Queens native 50 Cent and his G-Unit posse, whose freestyles he featured extensively and exclusively on his mixes. By the time 50 blew up in early 2003, Whookid had already released a half-dozen or so mixtapes featuring G-Unit, including 50 Cent Is the Future, No Mercy, No Fear, and God's Plan. Following 50's huge breakthrough, the Queens rapper continued to grace Whookid with yet more exclusive freestyles, which the DJ then mixed on such releases as G Unit Radio, Pt. 2: International Ballers. By this point very well known among the street-level rap community, Whookid also began collaborating with Snoop Dogg and Jay Z. If asked what some of his career highlights have been, Whoo Kid would have a hard time naming just one event. After all, he has deejayed Madison Square Garden with 50 Cent and Eminem, performed before not only Nelson Mandela in South Africa, but Prince Albert in Monaco, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hammad Alkhalifa in Bahrain, Omar Kadafi in Venice and Jackie Chan Jr in Hong Kong to name a few. He has performed solo in front of over 25,000 people for MTV Spain with the Blackeyed Peas and DJ Jazzy Jeff—his favourite DJ—and hung out with everyone from Paris Hilton, who will host his next POW party, and Donald Trump, to anyone who's anyone in the world of Urban entertainment at his G-Unit Radio show. |
