The Irish Chamber Orchestra's 07/08 season gathers momentum when world-famous British cellist Steven Isserlis performs with the orchestra in concerts in Dublin, Limerick and Cork on February 13, 14 and 15 respectively. ![]() Steven Isserlis, performing with the Irish Chamber Orchestra in Dublin, Limerick and Cork next month. Mr Isserlis has selected an all-Hadyn programme for his début with the ICO and this includes 'Symphony No. 13 in D', 'Symphony No. 104 and the 'Cello Concerto in D major'. He will direct the Cello concerto from the soloist's chair, will take the principal cello seat for Symphony No 13 and will conduct Haydn's final symphony from the podium. The ICO proclaims that as a performer, Mr Isserlis is "acclaimed for combining outgoing flamboyance with inwardness and introspection. He is renowned not only for his musical talent, but also for being a published music historian. His probing intellect and brilliant mind allow him to champion little known or lost works with great tenacity and his ingenuity and innovative programming is widely recognised". His grandfather was Russian pianist and composer Julius Isserlis, while older branches of his family tree go back to Felix Mendelssohn. Mr Isserlis has performed with Joshua Bell, Stephen Hough, Olli Mustonen, and Tabea Zimmermann as well as actors Barry Humphries and Simon Callow and has appeared with the world's leading orchestras in collaboration with Gardiner, Norrington, Slatkin, Solti and Tilson Thomas. "The more different worlds we can enter, the more exciting and fresh music will remain for us - and for the people to whom we're playing," said Mr Isserlis. The performance in Limerick will be in the University Concert Hall on February 14 and tickets are priced at €15, €20 and €25.
