Acclaimed Galway theatre company, Heart 'N' Crown Theatre, will present 'The Kings of the Kilburn High Road' by Jimmy Murphy at the Belltable Arts Centre on April 4 and 5 at 8pm.

The production is directed By Robbie Gallagher (Ros Na Rún) and starring Seamus Feerick (Fair City), Joe Tighe (Mobs), Barry Blaine (Fair City), Aidan Archer (Ros Na Rún) and Mike Kinsella (The Bill).

The play was made into an award winning film last year called 'Kings' starring Irish legend Colm Meaney and directed by Tom Collins.

Five expatriate Irish friends gather in their local London pub for a wake—a sixth member of the group has died at age 50.

As the lager and liquor flows, their shared history is told including how they came together from Ireland 27 years before, seeking new opportunities in England and planning to return home as conquering successes.

Only one has flourished, Joe Mullen, who started up his own business while the others still struggle in futureless jobs at the margins of solvency.

For the most part, they have romanticized their memories of Ireland with wishful fantasy, ignoring the bleak present in which they are trapped.

The situation of these men—self-exiled in a foreign land, away from their roots yet profoundly anti-English—is complicated not only by the failure of their emigration but also by the realisation that the home they knew is not there to return to.

Their solution is yet more alcohol and, intended or not, the play seems to suggest that their taste—or social more—for partying is as much the cause of their failures as it is the escape from their dismal prospects.

Tickets are available on 061-319866.
