The Belltable will be the venue for ‘First Love’ by Samuel Beckett by the internationally renowned Gare St Lazare Players Ireland tomorrow night (March 13) at 8pm.

Acclaimed actor, Conor Lovett, will perform the novella, in which the narrator expelled from the family home upon the death of his father and takes refuge on a bench by a canal.

There he meets a woman who takes him home and the events that follow are hilariously terrible.

The show will be superbly directed by Judy Hegarty Lovett and is a masterpiece of Beckettian perversity.

For more than ten years Gare St Lazare Players have performed recitals of prose texts by Samuel Beckett in a variety of venues and festivals around the world.

Conor Lovett’s performances have gained him a reputation as one of the foremost Beckett interpreters internationally.

He has performed 16 Beckett roles in over 23 productions and is due to begin work with theatre legend Peter Brook in 2009.

The Los Angeles Times said that “One could hardly come up with a better human instrument to intone Samuel Beckett's blasphemous comic prose than Conor Lovett”.

Tickets cost €18/€15 and are available by calling 061-319866.
