LIT is delighted to welcome Red Kettle Theatre Company’s acclaimed play based on the story of John Condon, the youngest allied soldier killed in the First World War.

John Condon, a native of Ballybricken, Co Waterford, was just 14 years of age when he was killed during the second battle of Ypres, on May 24th 1915-the first time gas was used in warfare.

This exciting and theatrical new work tells the story of this ordinary young fella who found himself, with many more Irishmen, in some of the most horrendous places imaginable-living trench life and facing death on a scale unseen before or since.

Men and boys together in war–many of whom believed they were fighting for Home Rule, many there for the adventure and many there due to their economic situation.

They were our neighbours, our cousins, our families and for reasons that had very little to do with them, they have been ignored in the telling of our history–even denied their ‘Irishness’–forgotten.

Hear their story retold in this “Incredibly touching” (Waterford Today) play at LIT Millennium Theatre for one week only!

“Directed with commendable insight and sensitivity” Waterford News & Star.
