Limerick band Vesta Varro, winners of 2007's Indie Week in Toronto, bring a piece of Canada to Dolan's Warehouse this Friday, July 25.

For the first time ever Canada Indie Week will host shows on foreign soil as it stops off in the city's premiere venue this weekend with a line-up that includes Walter Mitty and the Realists, Maslow, Brendan Markham and Band, Fred and Vesta Varro. After receiving interest from other Irish acts in the early stages of 2008, Indie Week founder Darryl Hurs decided to explore the possibilities of having shows in Ireland to pick acts to invite over to this year's festival in Toronto between October 7 and 11 next.

"There definitely is a wealth of talent in Ireland and it just makes sense to fly over to see which bands should be invited this year. All in all I am looking to host a full line-up of Irish acts in Toronto. Vesta Varro may have started something here," said Darryl.

In total five acts will be invited to perform at Indie Week Toronto; 2007 winners Vesta Varro, one winner each from the shows in Dublin and Limerick and two more from the regular application process. Acts can apply online at sonicbids.com/indieweek.

Vesta Varro bassist Rod Smith says playing at Indie Week was one of the best decisions they have made as a band.

"If you're any bit serious about getting your music out there and want to meet and play to the people who can make it happen, then this is the festival for you," said Rod.

Red Kid, Travega, The Minutes, The Aftermath and Vesta Varro play the Indie Week show in Dublin venue The Village this Thursday, July 24. While this Friday you can catch Walter Mitty and the Realists, Maslow, Brendan Markham and Band, Fred, and Vesta Varro at Dolan's Warehouse. Doors at 8pm and admission is free.
