“I have been writing new songs since I stopped touring the last record. I have a house full of old instruments and drums and I just recorded to my heart’s content. There was a period of real manic writing as I find unproductive periods too much to bear. The new album sounds like music I would like to dance to. Half of the album was written on drums instead of guitar or piano as I just wanted to make music that would keep me feel up throughout the recording process. At times the subject matter can be quite sinister so I wanted the music to counter that so I could enjoy it more. Sometimes I wish this record was as disjointed as the last one but I don’t actually think I’m capable of making a record that is completely cohesive anyway. I mean that in a good way though. It’s just that the musical freedom is too great when you are left to your own devices,” she concludes.
Cathy Davey plays Dolan’s on October 10, 17 and 24 so there are no excuses for missing her. For further information or bookings contact Dolan’s Pub on 061-314483. |
