CORK City Ballet will perform Sleeping Beauty in the University Concert Hall on Sunday November 16. Alan Foley who has a long association with Limerick directs Cork City Ballet. Alan spent four years teaching ballet at the Salesians and a further four teaching ballet at the Franciscan Centre on Bedford Row. ‘Sleeping Beauty’ will now bring a combination of classic ballet and contemporary dance to the concert hall stage. The company will present a suite from ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, along with a series of sparkling Divertissements which include Foley’s ballet ‘Gira Con Me’ with music by Josh Groban, and ‘La Viviandiere’ from the repertoire of the Kirov Ballet. Cork City Ballet will also present the Irish premiere of ‘Gala Pas de Deux’ choreographed by Christian Spuck, and in keeping with the company’s ethos of promoting contemporary and modern dance, this production will feature ‘Willing And Able’ a new jazz-ballet, to music by Prince, with choreography by three different choreographers including Patricia Crosbie. Speaking at the recent launch of the Sleeping Beauty, Artistic Director Alan Foley said, “Cork City Ballet’s new production is sure to please every cultural palate, with its fresh and innovative modern choreography in the Divertissements Act 1, combined with the great classical traditions of The Sleeping Beauty Suite in Act 2.” The ballet will star a host of international ballet stars including Marie Lindqvist – the prima ballerina of The Royal Swedish Ballet, and Dragos Mihalcea – a principal dancer with the same company, Irish ballerina Monica Loughman and Japanese ballerina Chika Temma. Eight young ballet dancers from the Edel Gallagher School of Ballet in Limerick will also be dancing in the ballet. For further information and bookings contact 061-331549 or log onto www.uch.ie. |
