The Quintet de Urfé will perform in ‘Cuba Classico’—a concert of Cuban folk and classical music—at the LIT Millenium Theatre on May 29 at 8pm.
The group is one of only two ensembles that have played their unique repertoire on the European stage. This beautiful concert in intimate surroundings represents a rare opportunity for the Irish public to experience the rich, atmospheric variety of Latin American folk and classical music. The Quintet de Urfé was founded in Havana in 1975 and was set up to showcase to the world the works of the Urfé family and other Cuban composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. The richness of rhythm, the beauty and authenticity of the melodies written throughout this period provide them with the opportunity to combine and fuse the rigorousness of concert music with vibrant Cuban folk music, which itself is a product of the fusion of the rich musical traditions of Spain and Africa. The Quintet de Urfé sets out to make the Cuban school of string music known internationally and to give each performance a dynamic flavor, so as to show the many facets of classical Cuban music to the public.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to experience a fascinating and fabulous musical evening. Tickets cost €18 and €15 for concessions. A booking fee applies and for more information contact 061-322322 or visit www.litmt.ie on the Internet. |
