The last walking tour of OPEN/INVITED ev+a 2008 at various city venues will be held this Friday (May 16) at 11am as the hugely successful exhibition comes to an end.

The two hour tour—led by local artist Patrick Keaveney—will begin at the Limerick City Gallery of Art and will cover the main e v+ a sites and consist of an introduction to the artists’ biography and practice and a continued informal dialogue about the work exhibited.

There will also be two ‘Meet the Artist’ events on May 16 at Istabraq Hall in City Hall with David O’Kane speaking at 3pm, followed by a lecture by Henna Riikka Halonen at 3.45pm.

‘Babble’, the video installation O’Kane exhibited in ev+a 2008, views Franz Kafka, Jorge Luis Borges and Flann O’Brien conversing through quotations from their literature in their native tongues, thus condensing space and language temporally into a single discussion. Babble highlights the immortality of these writers through the infinite repetition and the consumption of their words.

Finnish artist, Henna-Riikka Halonen, will discuss the themes and constructions of her practice, exploring immigration in Ireland.

Her growing interest in belonging and migration, raised specific situations about the  friction created through encounters; Does belonging require invisibility? How are invisibility and temporariness linked? Are those the main ingredients of belonging and the construction of personal territory within another territory?

The OPEN/INVITED ev+a 2008 catalogue will also be officially launched on Friday at the Limerick City Gallery of Art by Minister Willie O’Dea.

The extensive catalogue is a full colour publication, with beautiful installation photographs of all the OPEN/INVITED ev+a 2008 art works and detailed information on all of the artists participating including their practice and biography, published by Gandon Editions.

Family based workshops for ev+a will run on Saturday May 24, giving parents and young people an opportunity to experience the spirit of the exhibition.
