A CD of ‘The Munster Song’ by ex-boyband Limerick singing sensation Greg Ryan will be released on December 21, to raise money and support for the national awareness campaign of Irish Autism Action.
Mr Ryan and friend, Philip Scanlon, also previously collaborated on the single ‘Why?’ which reached number three in the Irish charts, for the same cause. Both men said that releasing the pop tune was “a mission of awareness rather than fundraising” asking “why there is not more of a general understanding” of autism, which affects thousands nationwide. Philip Scanlon’s daughter, Kayleigh, who has Autism, is educated at the Bluebell ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis) school in Limerick. “Both Philip and I are truly humbled by the support we’ve generated from friends for this project. It goes to show that at least some people are listening and we hope this single will help us generate the profile we need for the decision-makers at power-level to follow suit,” Greg Ryan said.
Having toured throughout the UK and Ireland during his time with Zoo, Greg won the support and friendship of pioneering autism campaigner—Boyzone and Coronation Street star Keith Duffy, whose daughter also suffers from Autism. “As a patron of Irish Action Autism, I am delighted to support Philip and Greg in their awareness and fundraising efforts to help keep Limerick’s Bluebell ABA school for children with autism open,” the Boyzone star said. The first verse of ‘The Munster song’ is performed by Glen Keating—a five-year old boy who has autism and has gone on to mainstream school thanks to ABA teaching.
