RTE 2FM’S School of Rock is inviting Limerick bands to send in their demos for consideration for this year’s competition for secondary school students nationwide. Five bands will be chosen to compete at five regional heats with judges choosing one act from each heat to go forward to the final in January 2009. The School of Rock judges for the regional heats include Ken Allen of Faction Records, musician Mark Greaney of Concerto for Constantine (formerly of JJ72) and Cormac Battle of RTE 2FM. For the live final, the panel will be expanded to include chairperson Larry Gogan, Stuart Clark of Hot Press, Noel McHale from MCD, Emma Harney of Entertainment Architects and Tony Perry, director of Pulse Recording Studios. RTE DJ and judge Cormac Battle said: “It’s always a major buzz to be the first to see a group before they explode onto the scene. Being part of the RTE 2FM School of Rock means we could discover such a band. I can’t wait for the action to kick off.” The Munster Regional Heat will be held in Cypress Avenue, Cork on Saturday December 6. Limerick’s very own Giveamanakick will perform as special guests. The closing date for applications is Friday October 10. Application forms and the full list of rules and regulations are available on the RTE 2FM website at www.rte.ie/2fm/schoolofrock. The winner of the RTE 2FM School of Rock will receive €10,000 for Everest Music Shop in Bray and Dun Laoghaire; five days recording time in Pulse Recording Studios; an interview with Hot Press magazine; a support slot at an upcoming MCD music event; a photo shoot with music photographer Enda Casey; a Pure Marshall DAB digital radio for each band member; an engraved Mario Cioni Kono Blue Crystal Award for their school. |
