CANADIAN soprano Gillian Keith will replace Susan Gritton for the
performance of Bach’s Cantata No 199 in E featuring the Irish Chamber
Orchestra at the University Concert Hall this Thursday, September 18. Gillian last performed with the Irish Chamber Orchestra at the MBNA Shannon International Music Festival in 2005. She has earned particular praise for her interpretations of Baroque music but is equally respected for her song performances. Like Gritton, Gillian is a former winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award. The Canadian soprano appears frequently with many leading orchestras including the Academy of Ancient Music, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and English Baroque Soloists. Recently, she has performed Britten’s Les Illuminations with the Northern Sinfonia, Bach’s St Matthew Passion with King’s Consort, Bach solo cantatas with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Bach Magnificat with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. At the 2005 London Bach festival she sang a newly discovered aria by the great composer. The Irish Chamber Orchestra will perform with Gillian Keith at UCH this Thursday, September 18.
