She And Him Zooey Deschanel and M Ward first came together as She And Him in 2006 for a movie soundtrack project in which they recorded a version of Richard and Linda Thompson’s ‘When I Get To The Border’. Their debut album recorded over seven months now brings their fledgling songs to gorgeous fruition. ‘Volume One’ embraces the warm sound of analog recordings and is more than just a showcase for Zooey’s rich and alluring voice. The album is distinctive and endlessly charming while giving a respectful nod to the likes of Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt and The Zombies.
Zooey channels Ronnie Spector on ‘I Was Made For You’ and the pair’s version of The Beatles’ ‘I Should Have Known Better’ is a seductive hula guitar duet. The results are always enchanting, making this an album you will want to listen to over and over. |
