EOIN McGonigal, Chairman of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) will open Cork-based painter Tom Climent's latest exhibition, 'Between Chance and Rhyme' this week. The exhibition will run at the Hunt Museum, Limerick, from April 3 to April 24. Virginia Teehan, Director of The Hunt Museum said that "Tom Climent is one of the most talented emerging young painters in Ireland and we are delighted that he accepted our invitation to exhibit at The Hunt Museum. We anticipate strong interest in his highly sought after and collectable work". Mr Climent studied at the Crawford College of Art, Cork from 1991 -1995. His father is Spanish and he and his family spent summer in Valencia, throughout his childhood. His work is strongly influenced by the Spanish masters. Winner of the prestigious Victor Treacy Award, for the best emerging artist in Ireland, in 1996, Tom went on to win the Tony O'Malley Travel Award, was 'Featured Artist Cork Art Trail 1999', 'Featured Artist Cork Arts Fest 2000', and winner of the Department of Foreign Affairs Travel Award. 'Between Chance and Rhyme' comprises of works completed over an 18-month period. Known for his bold use of paint and brooding dramatic colour, he can conjure a sense of interior space or landscape both urban and rural. While there is a lyrical romantic quality to some of his newer works, there still exists a sense of interaction, drama and narrative that characterised his earlier work. His work forms part of many private collections in Ireland, the UK, Spain and the USA and all works at this exhibition are available for purchase. |
