EVER-popular accordionist Dermot Dunne and violinist Katherine Hunka join the Irish Chamber Orchestra at UCH on Thursday February 18 to present an exciting mix of celebrated classics, virtuoso showpieces and a selection of works with a strong Latin flavour. The programme for this concert spans four centuries, blending precious gems from Vivaldi with the magic of Mozart to the wild passions of Piazzolla. The ICO’s first performance of 2010 will feature two of Vivaldi’s concerti for strings (‘F major RV141’ and ‘D major RV121’). Also included in the programme is Mozart’s instantly familiar and well-loved ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’, which has featured in no less than 60 film scores and earned its place as one of the 18th Century’s most popular and durable string serenades. Meanwhile, a selection of Astor Piazzolla’s sexy, tango-inspired classics will bring a dash of colour to this uplifting concert at UCH on February 18. Dunne and Hunka will join the ICO on stage to perform ‘La Muerte del Angel’, ‘La Resurreccion del Angel’, ‘Escualo’, ‘Oblivion’ and ‘Adios Nonino’, inspired by the death of Piazzolla’s father. To coincide with the Fleischmann Centenary Celebration, the concert also includes ‘Humours of Carolan’ by the composer Aloys Fleischmann and a rare accordion concerto by Molique. Tickets cost €25 and €15 and are available for booking by 061-331549 or logging onto www.uch.ie
