This summer, the National Concert Hall continues its highly acclaimed ESB BEO Celtic Music Festival from 16-23 August 2008 featuring celebrated Irish singer-songwriters such as Paddy Casey, Damien Dempsey, Scottish band Salsa Celtica and many more.
Ireland’s finest young traditional musicians from the Meitheal Summer School in Limerick will assemble together to form the 80-strong Meitheal Traditional Orchestra, playing all native instruments. Directed by Ernestine Healy who has composed and arranged the music for this ensemble. The Meitheal Traditional Orchestra will perform with well known Irish fiddler Zoe Conway from Dundalk on Thursday 21st of August at 1.05pm The Meitheal Summer Schools is a weeklong live-in music school located in Villiers College in Limerick run by Gary Shannon (brother of Sharon Shannon). It is an intensive residential course on Irish traditional music, which includes workshops with internationally renowned traditional tutors, sessions, concerts and céilís. Former tutor and well-known Irish fiddle player Zoe Conway will re-establish her connections with Meitheal when she performs with the students at the National Concert Hall. Zoe has performed with Riverdance on Broadway, has toured worldwide with the Riverdance Fying Squad and in the summer of 2004 completed a residency with Riverdance in the Gaiety, which was repeated in 2005 and again in 2006.
Her second solo album, ‘The horse’s Tail’ was released in October 2006 and has received rave reviews. ESB BEO Celtic Music Festival is sponsored by ESB, Fáilte Ireland, The Irish Independent, and Dublin’s 98fm. The Festival features singer-songwriter Paddy Casey who will perform his first solo gig in Dublin at the National Concert Hall after his highly successful American Tour this year on Saturday 16 August at 8pm is. Critically acclaimed as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of his generation, Damien Dempsey will perform on Saturday, August 23, top and tailing a jam-packed festival of evening and lunchtime concerts. The festival, sponsored by ESB, now in its 9th year also features Celtic duo Buille and the great Scottish salsa band ‘Salsa Celtica’, and many more.
