An improvised comedy by one of the city's youngest theatre companies will bring a lively whodunit to the Belltable stage on January 17, 18 and 19.

'Improvable Cause' is the latest show by Histrionic Productions and will mark one of the highlights of the venue's youth arts festival.

Director Sinéad O'Brien said that the show will be a never before seen interactive theatre experience for audience members.

"It has a beginning, middle and end but it's done in the style of 'Cluedo' so the audience names the characters and vote on who they think did it at the end. There is a cast of four, which is perfect because it would be difficult if we had too many actors. Some of the audience will have small walk on parts as well."

She added that each night will bring a different show to the stage.

Ms O'Brien said that the core of the company is around 10 to 15 members aged from 14 to 19. "The company was set up by two members- Liam and Marc- because they were frustrated at how little there was going on in the summer. They decided that the best way to be involved in the theatre was doing it themselves and learning the business. Most of the members are still in school and some are sitting Leaving Certificate mocks. It's a big challenge but we have a great cast and team."

The company—started in 2005—encourages young people to take part in all aspects of theatre; from performance, to directing, to pulling the curtain.

Histrionic does two or three productions a year and its last offering was a sell-out run of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' last summer in the Kilmurray Arts centre in Castletroy. 'Improvable Cause' will run every night at 8pm and there will also be a matinee performance at 12pm on January 18.

The show lasts around 40 minutes; tickets are €5 and for booking, call 061-319866.
