LIMERICK band Vesta Varro are gearing up for their return trip to
Canada next month with some Irish tour dates and a brand new single. The local five-piece comprised of Damien Drea (vocals), Keith and Peter Forde (guitars), Rod Smith (bass) and Shane Lee (drums), have just released new single ‘Believe’ which is currently riding high at number five in the Irish download charts. The Vesta Varro boys return to Canada next month to play Toronto Indie Week after winning the prestigious bandslam last year for their rousing brand of high-octane guitar rock. “Canada has been fantastic for us. I don’t know whether it’s the Irish thing or because it’s something new but the buzz there has just got bigger and bigger everytime we have gone out to play. The reaction from Canadian audiences to our music has been just phenomenal,” Vesta Varro bassist Rod Smith told me. “We are really busy at the moment and are having a great time as a band. We decided to release ‘Believe’ as a single because it’s a song that people have been asking us to release for ages now. We are out on the road at the minute doing live shows around Ireland and when we come back from Canada we are looking at heading over to Germany for some gigs,” said Rod. In the last 12 months Vesta Varro have also toured across Ireland, Britain and North America as well as being touted as “ones to watch” by UK music weekly the NME and winning ‘Best New Musical Artist’ at the inaugural MAMCA Awards. Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook is a fan of the Limerick outfit and their voracious live performances have led to support slots with the likes of Editors, Bell X1, The Thrills, Damien Dempsey, Sultans of Ping, The Wonderstuff and many more. Tracks from Vesta Varro’s ambitious debut album ‘Exit Here’ have appeared on various compilations worldwide as far as the USA, Australia, Germany, Canada and Ireland. The band have also signed a licensing deal with major American television network with four of their tracks featuring on the network so far. Vesta Varro’s new single ‘Believe’ is available now at iTunes and downloadmusic.ie. You can catch the Limerick rockers live at UL on September 30. |
