INDIE Week Canada 2008 is to prove the stuff dreams are made of for explosive Limerick rock band Walter Mitty and the Realists who jetted out for the high-profile music industry event this week.Walter Mitty and the Realists are comprised of Niall MacTaidhg (vocals, guitar), Conor MacTaidhg (guitar, percussion, vocals), Colin Bartley (double bass, bass guitar), and Pol O’Seachnasaigh (drums, percussion, vocals). The four-piece just played Irish music festival Hard Working Class Heroes for the second year running and are currently recording their debut album with former Cranberries drummer Fergal Lawler.“Fergal is great to work with, he’s a total gent. We are two thirds of the way through the album and are very happy with how it’s going. We hope to have it out early next year,” says chilled-out Mitty frontman Niall MacTaidgh. For a band still in their infancy - they have only been together as a quartet for six months – the Limerick band have become one of Ireland’s most high profile unsigned acts. They have played support shows with UK indie-rockers Dirty Pretty Things and experimental Icelandic outfit MuM, and have been hailed by music critics for their “psychotic live energy.” Walter Mitty and the Realists have joined last year’s winners of Indie Week, Limerick’s very own Vesta Varro, at this prestigious festival music in Toronto, which runs between October 7 and 10. The budding four-piece will play three showcase gigs for music industry moguls in Canada this weekend.“Yeah it will be great. I haven’t really had time to think about it. Apparently it’s really good though. I know I sound really cool about the whole thing, but I’m always the same even about holidays. As soon as I get on the plane it will sink in with me and I’ll be going Yes! Yes! Yes!” Niall jests.“Playing live is what we love best so the gigs will be great. There is nothing better than getting up on stage and getting a reaction. It’s a very natural thing to us and yeah we are excited about playing Indie Week I swear.”Catch Walter Mitty and the Realists back on home soil when they play Baker Place on October 31.
