Music Factory, the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s popular annual outreach programme run in conjunction with the MBNA Shannon International Music Festival 2008, took place last week at the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s stunning new home on the UL Campus.

The project was led by Diane Daly and fellow musicians from the Irish Chamber Orchestra, who took the young participants on a five-day adventure with music, movement and story-telling.

The children were introduced to the story, music and characters of Prokoviev’s Peter and the Wolf. Through improvisation, drama and movement workshops they will create stories based on earlier experiences of these characters.

The children will created a musical piece, Peter’s Prequels, and performed it for friends and family in the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s new home last Friday and they will do so again this Sunday July 13 at 1pm, in a special public performance prior to the ICO’s performance of Peter and the Wolf as part of the MBNA Shannon International Music Festival with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
