EXPLICATIO’, an exhibition of paintings by Irish artist Samuel Walsh is currently running at The Hunt Museum on Rutland Street until February 7. Born in London to Irish parents, Walsh taught drawing at the Limerick School of Art and Design from 1987 to 1997. In 2005 he was the Professor of Drawing for the autumn semester at the Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art, Brittany, France. He has also been a visiting lecturer to this college and to the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and the Burren College of Art, County Clare. While working on his series of works relating to Dante Alighieri’s ‘The Divine Comedy’, Sam also worked on other drawings and paintings, which are now on exhibit for the first time at the Hunt Museum. “The first purpose of this exhibition is to bring to the public these works that have not been seen since the time of their making,” Walsh explains. “The other purpose of this show is to present to you how an idea can be taken to a number of logical conclusions and along a particular path and occasionally to a dead end (but not a wasted end),” he continues. ‘Explicatio’ now runs at The Hunt Museum until Sunday February 7. The gallery is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 2pm to 5pm on Sunday. All works are for sale.
