A host of Ireland’s top contemporary bands and artists are all set to rock Limerick in the City’s first home-grown music radio sessions at Dolan’s from this month.
The sessions are to be recorded live at the Dock Road music venue and played live on Live 95FM award-winning radio programme, Green and Live, hosted by alternative music presenter, Alan Jacques. Broadcast on Limerick’s Live 95FM every Sunday between 8 and 10pm, Green and Live is one of Ireland’s most respected and best listened to contemporary Irish music programmes.
Now Green and Live is doing just that – going live – from Limerick’s premiere music venue every month to bring you the best new Irish talent first. Taking to the stage for the first Green and Live showcase is hotly-tipped Cork songsmith Ian Whitty, wonderful Waterford four-piece Deaf Animal Orchestra, and Walter Mitty and the Realists – one of Limerick’s best new live acts. Doors open at 8pm and tickets are free for the March 21 gig. Walter Mitty and the Realists have been described as “Essential Viewing” and “Uncontained psychotic live energy” while the band were also recently invited to record live in studio by 2FM for Cormac Battle's 'Wireless' show. They were also listed in Phantom FM's top 10 bands of last year’s prestigious Hard Working Class Heroes festival. Deaf Animal Orchestra meanwhile, write ambitious tunes that can be filed under the broad, gaudy term of melodic rock. Originally starting out in early '06 as a three-piece guitar-bass-drums trio, they've recently added a fourth member to help expand and tighten their live sound. Their music swings between loud, sarcastic rock-outs and simple love songs delivered free of all cynicism. Frontman Joe Harney boasts a unique singing style and delivers his lyrics with conviction and wit. The band feature a free download of their tune 'An Ape Odyssey', which features a guest appearance by none other than the great Jack Nicholson, will be made available through their website (www.deafanimalorchestra.net) on Friday, March 28th.
Ian Whitty has been a highly active figure in the thriving Cork scene as well as being invited to perform with many of the luminaries of the Irish scene including Declan O’Rourke, Bell X1, Josh Ritter, Damien Rice, The Frames and Rodrigo y Gabriela, to name but a few. ‘Green and Live’ is broadcast every Sunday from 8 to 10pm on Limerick Live 95FM.
