Limerick-based troubador, and former You're A Star contestant Richie McCoy is playing his final gig in Limerick—and Ireland—this year, at when he takes to the stage at Dolan's this Thursday night, April 16. ![]() Richie McCoy. Richie is pitching the gig as a farewell show, as he is moving to France for the next six months. Richie will be playing on the night with a full band, and he will be debuting some of the songs that he is working on at the moment. The Limerick songwriter is temporarily emigrating in order to focus on his song-writing. "The benefit of moving to France for that period of time is that I will be able to write and record over there, without the distractions of home and friends," Richie told the 'Limerick Independent'. Although Richie already has an album 'in the bag', as they say, the musician admits that it was not to his satisfaction. "I was not happy with the final production, and some of the songs I had originally selected," Richie revealed. However, the sojourn in France is by no means open-ended. Busy times lie ahead for the Limerick man. "After France I am travelling to New York for two gigs, and the onto San Francisco for five further gigs before I come back for Christmas," he said. Richie continued: "I am hoping to launch the album in January 2009 and it will have two of the tracks which were already recorded for the last album—the rest will be new tracks that are being debuted this Thursday in Dolan's. Support on the night is from the much talked about Nick Carswell who also plays in Richie's band and Ronan Johnston who was the musical director on 'You're A Star' the year Richie featured in it. Ronan has just finished working on Rock Rivals in the UK and will be performing tracks from his own album. Richie plays Upstairs at Dolan's on Thursday April 17.
