Jordan Zevon ‘Insides Out’ is the debut album from Jordan Zevon, the son of the Grammy-award winning legend Warren Zevon. A glorious mix of pop/rock inspired by Elvis Costello, XTC, The Cure and the New Radicals, the album is an intriguing listen that has many layers to be discovered on repeated listens. Jordan’s music can simply be described as organic, smart pop. While his dad’s music is certainly in his genes, Jordan it would seem tuned his radio to the British power-pop of the late seventies. Zevon’s ten-track debut album features nine new power-pop songs that bring to mind the aforementioned Elvis Costello and the Attractions, but also has the undeniable American influence of Steely Dan and Harry Nilsson.
As well as nine original tracks, Jordan pays homage to his dad with a cover of the Warren Zevon-penned ‘Studebaker which channels some of his old man’s energy.
Growing up in an atmosphere that ate, drank and slept music, it is no surprise that Jordan has grown into a proper musician in his own right. The young Zevon’s talent shines on his debut album ‘Insides Out’ on which you can tell Jordan has music in his blood, but also makes it clear that he has had his own influences outside his dad’s world. The result is an intriguing record that certainly has the influence of his father in its marrow, but also has a nod towards the brainy songwriting prowess of Elvis Costello and XTC’s Andy Partridge. |
