A winter coat is probably the biggest investment of the year, so it is important you find the trend that works for you.

There are many different styles, in heritage fabrics such as tweed, gabardine and heavy woollens in traditional checks and classic timeless styles.

There are a few things you that should help you choose the right coat for you.
Choose a style that works with your existing wardrobe, in a weight that isn’t too heavy for your lifestyle needs.

Go classic to inject colour and pattern into your wardrobe—the belted trench coat can be very flattering.

If you are going for a simple style coat opt for cashmere or wool in block colours in a streamlined silhouette.

This is a great trend to buy if you want your coat to last several seasons. The fabric must be good quality as the coat’s silhouette is pared down.

Due to the simplicity of this style, you can dress it up or down as you wish.

The Urban look is another option. Opt for slim parkas with quilting in chunky-zip detailing and adjustable hoods.

The Girlie or Audrey Hepburn look has the empire line, full skirt and shorter look with oversized buttons and Peter Pan collars.

Pick a coat that is long enough to cover your skirt or dress underneath. Stick to neutral colours as it won’t date as fast. Accessorise with opaque tights and gloves.
