Beauty & Fashion Tips to keep you on track. WELL, ultra-natural is the biggest beauty news all over the catwalks, from a healthy glow to matt nudes, to pretty and shimmery. Natural is the way forward. Regarding fashion also putty is the chicest shade on the block for accessories as it goes with everything. Firstly skin-coloured heels are instant leg-lengtheners and look great with this season’s bright colours. The same applies when you buy a skin-coloured bag. GETTING back to beauty and our skin , this week I am going to share with you a few tips on how to get your skin back on track after all the cold weather.Beauty starts with great skin and like our hair, if our skin is not looking well we don’t feel well in ourselves. To protect exposed skin all year round wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 15-30, depending on the season and length of exposure. Avoid sun-beds if possible or else cut them down to a minimum. The first basic rule is to use the correct products for your skin-type. Also cleanse your face every night and try and give your face a mini-massage using gentle circular movements all over face and neck. This will help improve the circulation and stimulate cell renewal which will help your complexion to look brighter. One of the most common problems women face this time of year is parched , dry skin. I recently came across a product by Vichy called- Aqualia Thermal Mineral Balm €24. With the highest concentration of Vichy Thermal Spa minerals to soothe, protect and reinforce the skin’s barrier function, the balm is also rich in Omega 6 oils that envelope the skin to form a protective layer. This is available in chemists nationwide. I also highly recommend using a face-mask at least twice weekly. I use a mask from Collin , Paris for mature skin and must say my skin has really improved. Apply to face and neck and leave for about 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and then use a toner. I am using it now as I am typing this!! The thing is when your skin is dehydrated it looks older. So it is important to use good moisturisers and be vigilant about your beauty routine. A LOT of people forget about their neck and sometimes this is a real giveaway. The skin of your neck tends to be dry and fine as it only has a small number of fat cells and small supplies of sebum. It is the area most prone to dryness and wrinkles. So basically I am strongly recommending , if you are not already doing so, to include your neck and décolletage into your daily beauty routine. To try and prevent your neck ageing it is advisable to use a good neck-firming cream . When you are putting it on also rub some into your chest . Bio-oil is also very good for your décolletage. WHILE many of us think nothing of forking out on expensive face creams , a lot of us ignore the area around the eyes! Using your moisturiser around the eye area is a big mistake as it is too rich and can cause puffiness and irritation. The skin surrounding the eye area is between three and five times thinner than the skin anywhere else and needs extra care. When you are applying your eye-cream/gel use your ring or small finger and just pat a little very gently around the eye area coming from the outside in. I use the clarins eye-gel if my eyes are tired or puffy in the morning and I keep this in the fridge. It is very refreshing and really helps my eyes. I also like the new Super eyes moisturising eye gel from Bliss. At night I use Renergie Yeux from Lancome which is a firming eye cream. Lastly a good eye mask is strongly recommended particularly for mature skin. Fashion Soiree for Breast Cancer. On February 27th next Russell’s Select Bar, Dooradoyle and myself are hosting a Fashion Show with a difference in aid of the Regional Hospital’s Breast Care unit. This show is part of a series of charity events being organised by Limerick man Dave Dineen whose wife Julianne was diagnosed with cancer last year. Five women who have survived Breast Cancer will take to the ramp on the night . Modelling classes will be starting next week for Levinia McNamara, Esther Lee, Mary Barry, Jean Dempsey and Jennifer Sheedy. The Models from my Agency better watch out!! There is a great selection of Ladies shops and designers taking part on the night and also Munster Academy members and other well-known sports personalities will strut their stuff in Jack & Jones and Tony Connolly Menswear. Tickets cost €20 and are available from Russell’s Bar or Hilary Thompson. Keeping in style with the cold weather. God its freezing!! What I wouldn’t give to hop on a plane to sunnier and warmer climes. I really feel sorry for anyone who has just returned from somewhere hot and has to cope with the weather here! Anyway as I have said before don’t leave the house firstly without protection for your face as this weather is very bad for the skin. Its gas really as everywhere you look its all about Spring/Summer fashions and really bright sunny fabrics and colours. But it does not come into the question this week as it’s all about wrapping up and staying warm. Although is has not stopped yours truly having a good look around the shops. Well for me its all in a days work! My mother , God rest her, always said everyone should wear a Thermal vest. I’m now inclined to agree with her! There is a much better variety available nowadays and they are not as bulky under your clothes. These days they are all high-tech and can be a godsend. Also don’t forget to wear your gloves as not only do they look good but will keep you cosy and also a pair of warm boots. A warm colourful wool pashmena also looks very chic worn over your winter coat. Besides all the doom and gloom , lets hope this cold spell passes quickly and we see some brighter days soon. Keep the chin up and keep warm! |
