A NEW survey has found that Limerick women consider themselves more overweight than the rest of Irish women.
Slender, a natural weight loss range from Irish natural healthcare company Lifes2good, recently carried out research with over 800 Irish women and it showed that a phenomenal 90% of Limerick women and 80% of Irish women consider themselves overweight with only 10% of Limerick women believing that they are at their ‘perfect weight’.
The research also shows that 67% of Limerick women claimed that lack of exercise and poor diet (50%) were the key reasons for being overweight.
The Slender research also shows that half of the women (50%) surveyed are between size 10 and 14 with 26% at size 14 -16 and 16% at size 16 and over.
The survey also showed that when overweight, over half of (54%) the women felt self-conscious with a third feeling less confident with 95% of Limerick women admitting to experiencing ‘fat days’.
Limerick women appear to be more confident with their bodies with almost half (44%—6% less than the rest of the country) of respondents saying that they are uncomfortable being seen naked in front of their partners with a shocking 47% (11% less than the rest of the country) saying they are even more uncomfortable undressing in a communal changing room because of their body shape.
Over half claim (60%) believe slim women tend to succeed more in both their personal and professional life.
Around a third of Limerick women diet constantly with 30% just dieting for special occasions, with Monday being the preferred day of the week to start a diet (78%).
With a staggering 65% of women spending their time watching dieting programmes such as RTE’s ‘Operation Transformation’.
More than half (60%) of the Limerick respondents admitted to now buying cheaper food options because of the recession with 61% admitting to comfort eating.
