Cancer booklet

Europe Donna, the Irish Breast Cancer campaign, has launched a patient booklet entitled ‘Breast Cancer and Fertility’. It is Ireland’s first comprehensive patient booklet offering advice on fertility issues for women of childbearing age who have received a diagnosis of breast cancer. The booklet explains how various cancer treatments affect the reproductive system, outlines personal fertility risks and how to make informed decisions about their treatment. The booklet is available on 087-6383609 and in cancer treatment and support centres around the country.

Aspirin research

Aspirin has become standard for heart attack prevention, but a new study suggests that it might be better for men than for women. The study by Canada’s Centre for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research highlighted how gender can affect aspirin’s powers. The research looked at over 20 clinical trials with aspirin involving over 113,000 patients. The results found that women were less responsive to aspirin than men for heart protection. The reason for this is not yet known but researchers suggested that sex-specific studies should now be conducted.

This course is aimed at sports leaders, children’s officers, parents and anyone working with young people in sport. It will run on Wednesday 31 and November 7, 7.30-9.30pm.
