When it comes to food destinations of the world there are too many to mention that will all give you a great experience, wonderful food and a great big holiday belly.

The Far East is incredible and a huge food adventure, if a little far flung for the middle of summer, Europe has lots of hot spots and the choice is many.

Paris would not have been the first on my list when it comes to holiday destinations with children. It’s big, huge, in fact and as far as memory served me, it’s pretty expensive.

All that aside Paris is an undeniably beautiful city with so much to see and do; it’s a feast for the eyes, the senses and the tummy.

After trawling many on-line booking services I chose a hotel in the Marais district, which is full of charming streets and typical Parisian cafes and restaurants.

Our hotel was not right in the middle of all the action, but close enough and also had plenty of quirky eateries around it.

The room had a kitchenette in it, something which, after day one and spending far too much on breakfast and snacks, I started to use.

This is invaluable with children, as they do tend to need to eat when they are hungry, unlike adults who can hold out a bit.

The hotel was close to several bakeries and an excellent looking charcuterie shop, this is a shop that specialises in cold meats and pates.

As we were in Paris for the weekend that took in both Sunday and Bastille Day (French Independence Day) a lot of the small shops were closed.

There was a really good small supermarket open beside the hotel where I stocked up on eggs, cheese, cold meats, fruit and other goodies.

Nice as it is to eat breakfast out, when you travel with kids, everything becomes more costly, depending on the size of your family.

So I chose instead to feed the kids in the room and then go and sit somewhere nice for coffee, or in the case of the kids, hot chocolate.

With so many great bakeries around and the bread being so cheap, less than a Euro for a baguette, the kids loved wandering along munching on a baguette, Parisian style.

The centre of the Marais area is the Place des Vosges, a stunningly beautiful park in the middle of a square.
