AS THE winter weather really comes in across the country, Limerick people are urged to remain vigilant against outbreaks of swine flu. This respiratory disease is caused by a strain of flu known as H1N1 and has been circulating worldwide since April 2009. Symptoms resemble seasonal flu and can include coughing, sneezing, headaches, fatigue and runny nose. Anyone with flu-like symptoms is urged to contact their doctor by telephone to discuss symptoms and what further action may be required. Remember that prevention is better than cure. Take precautions such as covering mouth/ nose when sneezing or coughing and discard the tissue immediately. Wash your hands frequently and clean hard surfaces on a regular basis. Of course it is also important to keep your immune system healthy- remember to eat healthily including items such as fruit and vegetables and wholegrain foods in your diet. |
