Limerick people are being called on to nominate carers for the national ‘Carer of the Year’ competition in recognition of the tremendous work that they are doing locally, often without reward.
“The awards are a celebration of the phenomenal dedication and care provided by family carers to their loved ones, those with special needs, disabilities, the elderly and terminally ill,” she said. “The awards are based on a national nomination process, whereby members of the public are invited to nominate their chosen carers for the awards. All carers nominated will receive a special commendation and from these four regional Carers of the Year will be chosen from all the entries received. The National Carer of the Year will be chosen from the Regional Carers of the Year.” Ms McDonagh emphasised that it would be great to “put Limerick on the map for something positive for a change? Go on everyone—show everyone how much Limerick cares! “It is my goal for at least our regional winner to be from Limerick City or County—maybe even the national one. I would like to encourage the public to vote for our unsung heroes. If they are being cared for or know of a carer who dedicates their life selflessly to caring for other they should nominate them now!”
