Members of the Attention Deficit Disorder Mid-West Support Committee is celebrating ten-years in operation.

The committee, which helps those suffering with ADD and ADHD in Limerick, celebrated its historic anniversary at Perry’s Hotel on March 7 last and marked the occasion by making a presentation on behalf of the founding Chairperson, Tom Naughton.

“The voluntary committee has come a long way since Tom, at his own expense, organised the first meeting in St Mary’s School in 1997. We then organised a very successful conference in Mary Immaculate Training College in 1998, which dealt with the symptoms and treatment of ADHD and co-existing conditions,” said Mary Bridgeman, PRO.

The following year the Mid-West support group successfully persuaded Oireachtas members to produce a report on ADHD, which led to the establishment of the first ADHD class in a primary school in Ireland.

“We also participate in the Limerick Mini-Marathon every year to raise funds and always welcome volunteers who are willing to participate in this event to help their cause,” Ms Bridgeman said.

Two years ago the group, with the he4lp of the Health Service Executive, established an office in the Enterprise Development Park on Roxboro Road, which is open to the public for three days a week.

“Our primary objective is to raise awareness among the public and especially among professionals. Anyone looking for information should contact 061-312621 or they can attend our monthly meetings,” Ms Bridgeman said.

The ADD Mid West Support Committee meet on the first Thursday of every month at the Enterprise Development Park, Roxboro Road.
