The Limerick photographer beat off stiff competition from some of the best photographers across Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and parts of South Offaly to win 'Best Feature Photograph' at the awards ceremony, which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Limerick City on Saturday night last. "It was both an honour and a privilege to win such a prestigious award in the first year of the event," Mr Wiseman said. "My own hope is that the event now goes from strength to strength and will gain even more momentum in the coming years. I'd like to thank my wife for supporting me in what I do. I'd also like to thank all the management and staff at the Limerick Independent for their encouragement and help. It's great to be working in a company with such a wonderful professional team," Mr Wiseman added. Limerick woman and RTE News Anchor Eileen Whelan was MC on the night and presented the lucky winners with their MAMCA Awards. Limerick Independent news reporters Rachael Finucane and David Raleigh were also nominated and short-listed respectively for their work in both the 'Best News Piece' and 'Best News Feature' categories, while Limerick composer Bill Whelan was given the 'Richard Harris Lifetime Achievement Award'. This category was awarded to an individual or group who has achieved excellence in their chosen field and through their commitment to the arts or media has been a beacon of idealism to others. Chairman of the MAMCA's, Martín O'Brien and organiser Nicky Woulfe of Woulfe Event Management said the judging panel had a tough time deciding on the outcome of the awards. Both added that they were thrilled at the success of the first night of the awards night and were looking forward to next year's event. |
