Counselling and Chaplaincy services have been made available to students at the University of Limerick following the tragic death of a student at the college campus last Friday.

Stephen McGuire-a second year student of Business Studies and French-from Co Clare died suddenly of natural causes in his college accommodation in the early hours of December 14 last.

After he was found in his bed unconscious, an ambulance crew and a Garda unit were alerted. However the 18-year old was pronounced dead at his accommodation.

“The campus community was shocked on Friday to learn of Stephen’s death,” said a student at the college.

A native of Tuamgraney, Co Clare, Stephen’s funeral took place on Monday morning.

“UL Students Union would like to express our sincere condolences to the friends and family of Stephen McGuire, on behalf of the students of the University. We would also like to let students know that the Counselling and Chaplaincy services are available to them if they need any support,” UL Students’ Union President St John Ó Donnabháin told the Limerick Independent this week.
